01What a cookie is here
A cookie is a small file a site asks your browser to keep. We also use two related browser features — localStorage and sessionStorage — which work the same way from your point of view. This page covers all three.
02What we set
| Name | What it does | Lasts |
|---|---|---|
| Session cookie | Keeps you signed in between requests. Without it, every page would ask you to log in again. | Until you sign out |
| CSRF token | Proves a form submission came from a page we served, not from another site. | Session |
| anesty-marketing-theme | Remembers whether you chose the light or dark theme, so the page does not flash the wrong one. | Until cleared |
| anesty:signup-email | Carries the address you typed on the home page to the signup step in the same tab. | Until the tab closes |
| Analytics | Counts page views and signups in aggregate so we know which pages work. Set only if you accept analytics. | 13 months |
03Strictly necessary vs optional
Everything above except analytics is strictly necessary: the service cannot sign you in or keep your preferences without it, so it is set without asking. Analytics is optional and is only set if you accept it.
04No advertising cookies
We do not set advertising or cross-site tracking cookies, and we do not sell or share what these cookies record with ad networks or data brokers.
05Turning them off
Every browser can block or delete cookies and clear site storage — usually under Privacy or Site settings. Blocking the strictly necessary ones will sign you out and stop the theme preference from sticking, but nothing else breaks.
